During the PADI (DSMB) course, you will learn the correct way to deploy various types of surface marker buoys, which are often used in currents or to mark a diver's position. Deploying a surface marker buoy (DSMB) before you surface can signal your position to others before you ascend, increasing your safety level. The DSMB line can be used to complete the safety stop, which is very useful in currents or when there are no other visual references.
During two training dives, you will perform the following exercises:
- How to prepare and stow your DSMB and reel.
- How to deploy the DSMB from a stationary position and from mid-water.
- Swim while towing a DSMB and managing the reel and line.
- Perform a safety stop using the DSMB line.
